The atmosphere was incredible and everyone was set to dance, sing and enjoy every minute of an unforgettable night. The crowd started to cheer, the sky started to fill with the colourful smoke from the flares and people were on each others shoulders, the wombats were ready to come on stage.
The Liverpool trio stepped on stage and the crowd instantly started jumping and singing along to ‘Cheetah Tongue’ from their their newest album ‘Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life’ before kicking off with some classic indie hits from their first few albums.
The LED backdrop on stage changing its picture as songs went one, lighting up the crowd with colourful moving images to fit hand in hand with the song being played, with Wombats being intertwined in most the images matching the little teddy one on Haggis’s drums and of course the band’s name. Just before the encore during ‘Let Dance to Joy Diversion’ Matthew, Dan and Tord were joined on stage by people dressed up as Wombats as they all jumped and danced around the stage singing “yeah we are so happy” over and over again.
There was something so special about watching the sunset over Manchester while listening to The Wombats headlined Castlefield Bowl for Sounds of the City and it truly was a night to remember no matter where you was in the crowd.
