With the rising of the teenage heartthrob, Declan Mckenna, this night was going to be an unmissable one. The queue snaked around the corner of Whitworth street leading into the 700 capacity room, the under-tunnel room was filled with smoke and eager people waiting against the stage at the no barrier show.

The support act Girli, got the crowd hyped with electric beats and lyrics with attitude. Girli, Milly Toomey, was joined on stage by DJ Kitty, Rosalie Sylvia. The duo owned the stage with a lively performance making everyone get off their feet to dance along. The fierce lyrics in “Girls Get Angry Too” take a stand for women while being catchy making you want to go home and dance around your room to Girli’s music on repeat, and that I did. Girli left the crowd ready for the act everyone was waiting for, Declan Mckenna.

While waiting for Mckenna to hit the stage everyone was singing along to the classic playlist playing to fill the time for the stage to be set up. The sold out venue was full of high spirits, glitter and smoke. Declan McKenna hit the stage in a white mechanic's jumpsuit with glitter tears and his band Isabel Torres (guitar), Sofia Heustice (bass), Gabi King (drums) and Nathan Cox (keys). Everyone was off their feet jumping around, the energy didn't die down throughout the whole set. Mckenna started off big with a high energy song getting everyone jumping around and bashing into each other.

A few slow songs did not slow the crowd down, all the songs are unique and capture a different feel, with a couple new songs being played off McKenna’s highly anticipated album “What Do You Think About The Car?” set for release on the 21 July. A few mosh pits broke out with the crowd jumping in on the chorus singing along and living in the moment. Declan McKenna is definitely an unmissable artist to listen to an phenomenal performer along side his band. Keep an eye out for any upcoming shows and keep an ear out for Declan’s new album set for release in just over two months.
